The Continued Evolution of Harley Quinn, by Angela Rairden

Harley Quinn went from being a notorious criminal as the Joker’s girlfriend in Gotham to being a well-intentioned, but not exactly law-abiding, anti-hero when she got a fresh start in Jersey. Now, in her newest reboot from writer Stephanie Phillips, Harley’s looking to become
a hero?!? In March’s Harley Quinn #1, everyone’s favorite psychiatrist-turned-delinquent clown finally returns to Gotham with an aim to make amends for her past misdeeds. This is not the same Gotham as the one she left, however. This Gotham is still shook from the Joker War, the aftermath of which has left the good people of Gotham...

Karmen Promises to Be a Different Type of Angel Tale by Angela Rairden

Karmen #1, released by Image and written and illustrated by Guillem March, is exactly the sort of unique, offbeat comic that Image fans have come to know and love. The comic chronicles the tale of an unconventional angel named Karmen and the young woman who becomes her latest charge. Depicted as a thin, young woman with short pink hair and a smatter of freckles across her nose, Karmen seems to have a carefree, almost playful attitude as she first graces the pages of the comic. From her neck to her high heel-clad toes, Karmen appears to wear a skin-tight black...

Buffy the Vampire: Faith #1 Delves Into Faith’s Confusing Past by Angela Rairden

Faith #1, the one-shot comic that released on February 24th from BOOM Studios, reveals the never-before-told backstory of one of the most popular characters in Buffyverse. Need a Netflix Recommendation? Give “Project Power” a View! by Angela Rairden

Although it was first released in August of 2020, I just recently caught Netflix’s film Project Power and was intrigued by its action-packed storyline. Starring big names like Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the plot involves recently developed pills that give their users unpredictable superpowers, but only for five minutes at a time. The film explains that the pills are derived from evolutionary developments found in animals, such as a cheetah’s speed or a chameleon’s ability to change colors. The pills are sold on the street by drug dealers for astronomical prices with the tantalizing concept of “what’s your power?”...

"A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" is a Different Type of Vampire Tale by Angela Rairden

The other day, I picked up volume one of Ana Lily Amirpour’s A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, a comic adaptation of Amirpour’s 2014 film of the same title. Although I couldn’t find anything official to indicate how many single issues are enclosed in this trade collection, it appears to be only the first two – “Death is the Answer” and “Who Am I”. The film, which is in Persian, is touted as “the first Iranian vampire Western,” and follows the doings of a character known only as The Girl, who is a young-looking female vampire inhabiting the seedy...
